Exodus (Narrative)

After the death of Joseph, Moses and the Israelites where held captive and forced into slavery by Pharaoh and his army. As Moses was caring for a flock, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a fire-filled bush that ironically was not burning. Moses became afraid but God assured him all is well. God told Moses that He saw them suffering and with his leadership and God's presence, His people will be set free from Pharaoh's enslavement. God promised them the land of milk and honey thereafter. God performed several acts to convince Moses of His wonderous works. Moses went to Pharaoh demanding the release of the Jews. After a series of plagues that tortured the land of Egypt, Pharaoh still disobeyed God's command. Once God place the plague that all firstborn children & animals must die, Pharaoh released the Israelites from Egypt only to go back on his word. He sent his army and chariots after the Israelites. God had Moses to part the Red Sea with his staff. The Israelites were able to walk on the floor of the sea to the other side. Pharaoh's army followed after them. Once all the Israelites were safe on the other side, God closed the Red Sea drowning all Pharaoh's men. The Israelites were free from their 40-year enslavement only because they trusted and stood on the word of God. Exodus means "going out" in Greek. This narrative is known as the Exodus simply because of the meaning of the word. They were brought out of captivity.
