Nicole Machiavelli lived in Florence, Italy in the 1400’s. The country of Italy was divided into city-states that had their own leaders. In time in which great leaders were needed in order to help the development of a city-state and country ,Machiavelli had a theory that man needed a leader to control them. So he wrote a political textbook called " The prince " and In his book The prince speaks of the perfect leader and also offered a different set of advice of how to govern a society. I believe , that machiavelli's ideas would prepare a leader to be successful.

Machiavelli's ideas prepare a leader to deal with challenges .Although he may be considered cold hearted and unjust, I believe that in many roles of political leadership, a person will have to be cold in many areas of ruling. Machiavelli is a leader who understands the human mind. With this knowledge he has, he manipulates the people. I believe that Machiavelli was giving this knowledge to make a city/state work, the people must be loyal and respectful of its prince. If the people are loyal to their leader they will prosper and benefit more. If the city prospers so does the leader and he gains more power. So to me it seems like a cycle of you get what you want, and I get what I want, but only if you agree on my terms.

In " The prince" Machiavelli discusses that it is best for a ruler to be both feared and loved, but if he cannot be both, it is much better to be feared. People are unlikely to overthrow a ruler that they fear, because they fear the punishments for failure. If the ruler is not feared by the people, he will eventually upset enough of them that they will rise up against him, and they will overthrow him because of his weakness. He believes that the state is completely separate from the rulers private life. No matter how immoral the ruler may be in private, only his public image is important.

Machiavelli says a Prince should fight by law or by force "that there are two ways of carrying on a contest ; the law and the other by force " He means that a Prince must be half human and half beast and must learn how to act like both. The Lion represents a Prince Ruling with strength and is used as a symbol for wisdom. A lion is also able to drive away wolves, a prince must be able to stand up against his enemies. However, a lion cannot recognize traps, therefore, a prince must also be like the fox-wise , as a fox is able to recognize traps. This way, if a Prince can do both skillfully, he will always appear to have the good qualities of a Prince.

Machiavelli's point is that the ideal Prince will combine both characteristics. Strong enough and smart enough to face any threat to his rule.

Machiavelli understood the place of a prince and the place of his subjects and citizens. He knows what leadership consist of and how to obtain true power. He also knows that most common people do not, and they should be ruled over for their own good.I believe that Machiavelli gives advise based on his knowledge of how people work and think
