The following paper will briefly discuss normalization and how the normalization process is associated with the accompanied Microsoft Access database presentation. This paper will also discuss normal forms and why they are sufficient in the Access presentation.

Normalization is the process of taking raw information and breaking it into tables of columns and rows of related data. The normalization process is used to organize and manage data while reducing redundancies and abnormalities created by inconsistencies of data in multiple tables. The main benefit from using this process is to make adding, editing, and deleting data from the database easier and faster for the user.

This database is in the third normal form (3NF). At this level of normalization there is no repetition of groups of data. The Boyce-Codd normal form (BCNF) requires that in order for a database to be in the 3NF, there are no non-trivial functional dependencies of attributes other than a candidate key. Normalization to the 3NF is considered the standard form for a database. This form is sufficient due to the relatively small database with only a few tables.

This paper briefly discussed normalization and how the normalization process is associated with the accompanied Microsoft Access database presentation. It provided information on the purpose and benefits of the normalization process and why they are sufficient in the accompanied Microsoft Access presentation.
