Obesity

In this essay I'm gonna talk about the obesity crisis in the UK, based on two articles ”Obesity crisis risks making britain ”fat man of Europe” warns report” by Hayley Dixon and ”Move over ladies fat is no longer a feminist issue” by Sanchez Manning. And i will give my opinion on how people with unhealthy eating habits can be persuaded the same way as smokers and at last i will discuss what the government's role is in reducing obesity.

Obesity is a condition of excess body fat. If you eat to much fat and sugar it will lead to over weight and then to obesity. Obesity can affect you as a person from young children to when u get older. There are many causes of obesity such as overeating and lack of physical activity. Obesity can lead to deadly diseases, such as diabetes, high Blood Pressure, heart attack and even cancer. And the surgeries can get very expensive for the country. This is a problem all around the world, but is getting very common in the Britain.

The obesity crisis in britain has become a very serious issue. They need to tackle this problem a soon as possible to prevent britain gettin ”fat man of Europe”. According to The Guardian 220.000 british doctors want urgent action from the government, the NHS (National Health Service), councils, food firms and parents in order to stop ”generation after generation falling victim to obesity-related illnesss and death” Before it gets unresolveable. There are a couple of ways to tackle this problem, according to the doctors. One plan is to put 20 per cent tax on every sugary drinks which i think is a great idea because it could be a major benefit for both the country and people. It will benefit the country, because either there will be less obese and therefor less expensive sergury's or they could use these ”taxes” to spend by NHS for surgeries or programs. And it will benefit the people because there will be a bigger chance that they choose the healthy life. Another idea is to limit the fastfood outlets near where children gather, including schools and leisure centres. Furthermore the NHS should discuss eating habits with patients and the organisation should invest £300 million over the next three years in weight managements programmes the doctors also want to do a bariatric surgery on people at risk of deaath, and they would like to get the

vending machines and unhealthy food in the hospital banned and for all schools canteens to serve healthy food. In 2050 more than half of the adults in the UK will be obese and the NHS is afraid that the budget is already getting to high, and that the situation will reach to a point where they cannot handle this problem. Obesity already
