This is a group project. Please do in groups of 4. If you know who you want to work with, please submit your group members and the name of the organization selected for your project via a formal email to me no later than the third session. Otherwise I will form groups.
Operating System Group Project (Case Study)
You are all I.T. Consultant working for KPMG. In your role as I.T. Consultants for KPMG you are required to analyze the I.T. needs of organizations and make recommendations for improvement for those organizations that employ the services of your employer, KPMG.
Case Study: Part 1 (25 Marks)
KPMG has recently seen an increase in businesses requiring assistance with either improving their current I.T. platforms or introducing technology to improve/replace current manual business processes.
The organization requiring this I.T. Consultancy service can come from all types of businesses and government organizations. Some of KPMG's customers include banks, government ministries, retail, telecommunications, manufacturing, and energy.
As a Consultant for KPMG, your group is required to visit one of these organizations and conduct an assessment of their current information technology (IT) platform. During this assessment you would focus on the following:
- The Network Infrastructure
- The Operating System Platform
- The Core Line of Business Applications
You are to develop an assessment report of the current systems in place as it is currently deployed. You are then required to meet with your Manager (Mr. Ramsey) to review your assessment and discuss a way forward with regards to improving the organization’s I.T. Systems. The report must be bounded and well-structured and must include but is not limited to the following sections:
- Cover Page (include the report name and the names and I.D. of the Consultants)
- Table of Content
- Executive Summary (Must clearly state the name and job sector of the organization as part of the summary) (5 marks includes cover page and table of contents )
- Sections discussing the organization's current (a) Network Infrastructure (b) Operating System Platform (c) Line of Business Applications with all necessary/related diagrams (15 marks)
- List of Tables and/or Figures and all necessary References based on MLA format (5 marks)
- Appendix (if required)
This must be submitted by Session 6 of the semester. You would then meet with your Manager during week 7 of the semester.
