Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper

Understanding and recognizing organizational behavior is beneficial to management, leadership, and employees related in the organization. Understanding the concepts of organizational behavior, employees will realize the effect of his or her actions will have in the organization. To understand organizational behavior better, I will provide a brief description and explain the terminology and concepts of organizational behavior.

Organizational Culture

Organizational Culture is shared values and beliefs, which influence the behavior of the organizational members, which is known as an organizational culture (John R. Schermerhorn

Jr., James G. Hunt, and Richard N. Osborn, 2008). Strong organizational cultures function with a clear vision of the future, which is sustained by excellent communication and established values and beliefs. Organizations with strong organizational cultures often made up of high-performance atmosphere, and prioritize innovation, and teamwork. Organizational cultures consist of three different elements, constructive culture, passive/defensive culture, and aggressive/defensive culture. Constructive culture is a member of the organization, which is helpful with others within the organization. Passive/defensive culture is best described when a member is defensive in his or her work environment. Aggressive/defensive culture is a member of the organization, which tends to be territorial, protecting his or her position.

Organizational Behavior

"Organizational behavior is the study of individuals and groups in organizations" (Schermerhorn Jr., Hunt, & Osborn, 2008, p. 5). Excellent organizational behavior is established through positive relations among individuals, groups, organizations, and one's social system whether he or she is at work. Organizational behavior builds excellent leadership skills and increases better work quality that persuades employees to appreciate his or her organization more and motivates him or her to work harder, creating organizational growth. For instance, in my current organization, I exceeded the limit in scanned images. My manager recognized my effort in exceeding the daily quota. He came up to me and thanked me in front of the other employees. When the other employees heard my manager giving me recognition, this motivated my fellow coworkers to work harder.

Diversity

Diversity attributes to characteristics, which differ people from one another based on age, ethnicity, gender, race, marital status, educational background, income, geographic location, religious beliefs, work experience, and sexual orientation.
