It was a day like any other. The only difference: it was Halloween. It was raining a lot, so we had to go to the auditorium for lunch. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in the fifth grade, about nine or ten. We had fish sticks for lunch, and I didn't like them. “Ugh, I hate the food from school”, I said. My friend Diana said the same thing, “I don’t like it either.” Hearing the thunder from outside gave me the chills. I remember we were watching Robin Hood to entertain us because we couldn’t go outside for recess. About 30 minutes into the movie, I needed to go to the restroom. So I asked one of the staff, “May I go to the bathroom please?” “Sure, mija, go ahead,” replied the staff. So I got up saying to Diana,“I’m going to the bathroom. I’ll be right back”, and went to the restroom. “Ok”, she answered. They were a little far from the auditorium. Some people said that those bathrooms were haunted, that someone died in the restrooms. I never believed them, I always knew they were making those stories up, or so I thought they were make believe. I always thought, They’re just making it up to scare me, aren’t they?

While I was walking to the bathroom, I heard someone walking up behind me. I thought it was another student going somewhere. But when I stopped, I no longer heard the footsteps. At first I thought they left, so I bent down to tie my shoe. When I got up, I felt hands going around my waist. Scared, I turned around and punched whoever that was in the face. “Oww!!” cried Jayden, the boy I’ve known since we were both in kindergarten. He had a huge crush on me since we were in first grade, but I didn’t mind. I still hung out with him. He asked rubbing his eye, “What’d you to that for?”“I’m so sorry Jayden, but you startled me. Besides, it was self defense, What else was I supposed to do?” I said, super embarrassed. He replied, “Well, for starters, you could’ve just pushed me. And also, you could’ve said hi first. Take a look at my eye. Is it bad?” As I looked at his eye, I said hi. His eye was purple. “ You’re eye isn’t THAT bad. It just turned purple. And besides, why did you creep up on me in the first place? You know I don’t like being scared,” I told him as I pulled at my pants. I hated when he scared me. I asked him, “ What do you want? Do you want to tell me something, or did you just want to scare me?”“Nope, I just wanted to scare you,” he said smiling from ear to ear. I pushed him.“Ok, shorty, can I go to the bathroom now?” I asked him, knowing he hated to be called “shorty”. He sighed. “Ok, fine, but don’t call me shorty. You know that I hate being called that. Besides, I’m way taller than you now.”

I smiled, waved goodbye and ran to the restroom. Once I went in, I did my business. It was dark in there, but I didn’t care. I was gonna wash my hands, but when I turned on the faucet. But I noticed that the sink starting to get backed up. I was able to wash my hands once, but I like to wash my hands twice. I was staring at the faucet, thinking something
