Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is a character trait that is detrimental to building relationships and living a successful life. Personal, professional, and educational relationships are based on trust, and there cannot be trust without accountability. Building relationships on the educational platform requires that each individual can take responsibility for their education. In the end, successful college graduates will obtain their degrees and move on to the rest of their lives, but you cannot get through life without learning to accept the consequences for your actions.
Personal responsibility on a personal level is important. It is a characteristic that should be instilled from day 1, especially throughout the early childhood years before it is too late. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach their children how to accept responsibility for their actions. Personal responsibility is pertinent throughout school age years because this is the time children are testing their boundaries, and will learn either the easy way or the hard way.
Personal responsibility on a professional level can open up countless possibilities. How your past and present employers see you as a person can affect your ability to move up in the workforce in the future. You never know what affect your actions may have on your career, but learning to accept responsibility for those actions will show others that you are responsible and dependable.
Personal responsibility from an educational standpoint is very important. Consider your school as a network of possible contacts for possibilities in the career you choose. Do not burn your bridges. Specifically in Professional Schools, you professors are still full-time professionals in that field of study, so it can benefit a student to make a long-lasting good impression on his or her professors. Enrolling in college is the first step to taking personal responsibility for you education.
In conclusion, personal responsibility is a character trait that is detrimental to building and maintaining relationships and living a successful life for two main reasons. First, you cannot get through life without learning to accept the consequences for your actions. Most important, personal, professional, and educational relationships are based on trust, and there cannot be trust without accountability.
