Plastic Surgery Is Bad for Teens

"I am not going to the parties until you get my nose surgery done. I want liposuction as a birthday gift because my boyfriend does not like my weight. My lips are too small compared to my face; I need lip surgery". These are the demands of today's teens that have agitated parents. Although it helps them gaining self-esteem and in some cases they feel more like relieved but this is short term. A teen age is emotional age in which they face tremendous pressure to look perfect. Dr. Kearny reports that a teen age is not to get Liposuction instead it is a time to learn about exercise and diet (qtd. Brochu). Teenagers are not old enough to undergo a plastic surgery procedure.
First, there are major risks involved in a plastic surgery. Dr. Canady states that plastic surgery is still a surgery and every surgery has complications involved in it (qtd. ______). Why getting into those complications in quite early age. Teen age is a time period to live a life of fun enjoyment, an age that leaves a lot of good memories for the whole life. On the other hand, "cosmetic/plastic surgery can cause skin damage, cause permanent numbness infection and in some cases it leads to death"(Ali and Lam). Sweeney reports that a girl named Amy Fledderman died of fat embolism syndrome after undergoing liposuction and another girl named Stephanie Kuleba died on the operating table in 2008 due to the problem created by anesthesia used during her breast augmentation (Sweeney). Breast augmentation, liposuction or any other type of cosmetic surgery is not important than a life.
Plastic surgeries are giving teenagers pain more than relief. Ulene stated in her article that it is possible that skeletal maturity occurs from age fourteen to sixteen but bodies continue to grow. Boys may grow muscular and girls too may gain some weight (Ulene). Gaining or losing weight changes appearances. Unfortunately, the particular part on which surgery is performed does not grow or change which makes it misfit with the body or face.
