Privatized vs. Universal Health Care
In 2007, there were around 46 million people in the United States who were without health insurance for at least part of that year, which is around 15 percent of our population. Over 1 million workers lost their health care coverage in January, February and March 2009. Roughly, 268,400 more workers lost health care coverage in March 2009 than in March 2008. Proving that today, that number is markedly higher as many workers who have lost their jobs have also lost their employer-provided health insurance. Many people have different opinions among privatized and universal health care; even though, choosing privatized is a better decision for our country. Privatized health care is when there are many different types of health care and the people have the alternative to choose what type they want. Universal health care is open to everyone in the country. It does not matter how high a person's income is or what job they may have; everyone receives free health insurance. Both health care systems may sound superior; however, they both have their pros and cons. Privatized is a better decision for the economy because it is cheaper, it provides options, and you can choose your own doctor.
Some people prefer universal health care because they believe that it is cheaper. Although, universal health care in the end is not cheaper. Where do you think the country is getting the money from to pay for all the machines, the medicines, doctors, and nurses? They are getting the money from our tax dollars so in the end the people still have to practically pay for their own health care. In addition, many people think that since universal health care is open to everyone and no one is without insurance that it is a better plan. However, now that the country has countless number of people going to the hospital, a person would have to wait months or even years for an operation and because they are not getting all the money the people would pay for insurance the equipment is out dated and the people cannot get the best care possible. Privatized may be more expensive for the people; but, you have better quality treatment: Stated by Journalist Iain Murray in the National Review Online "As hospitals and doctors spend money updating their facilities, purchasing expensive high-tech medical equipment, conducting more research and purchasing new drugs, the additional costs are passed on to patients."
Privatized health care also provides a consumer with options: "Universal health coverage would actually eliminate consumer choice when it comes to health care." It is set up in a way that the consumer has the preference to which plan they would like to have. Each plan is different depending on a person's age, job, and a person's income. People say with privatized health care many people are not provided with health care:
