Project Scope
When developing a successful program there are certain items that must be included. The project scope is one of these items. The project scope entails many of the key elements. The project scope sets up the entire project. It purpose is to set up a roadmap that will clearly guide the customer through the entire process highlighting the deliverables for the end user or customer.
Company X must begin building their program in a way to bring the most success in the shortest amount of time. To do this successfully, they must start with the project scope. They will start with the project objective. The objective of the project is to modify the Bell 407 helicopter from a commercial helicopter to a military helicopter capable of carrying a small payload of weapons and crew. This process should take place in around ninety days from start to end for each aircraft, and completing the entire project of twenty seven helicopters in twenty months. The budget for this project will be $150 million dollars which includes the cost of the helicopter and all its upgrades. The major deliverables, in this project, will be the systems upgrades, the weapons systems, the test flight, and the final delivery to the customer. The milestones of the project come in the different stages of the project. Every ten days, the helicopter will move to a different station for upgrades. The final station, on the line, is the weapons system. After leaving the line it will enter the paint shop for a new paint scheme and then go to the flight line for final testing. The technical requirements for the program are to ensure there are proper manuals for the mechanics. Have the proper tooling for the job and to have the right number of properly trained people to do the job. Limitations and exclusions include customer will provide own pilots for the helicopter when completed. Customer will pay all cost for shipping helicopters overseas. Company assumes no liability once helicopter has been delivered to customer. The final piece is the customer review. Company X will sit down with the customer to review each step in the project scope to ensure all the customer's needs will be met in this process.
The current situation of Company X is a good one. Company X has established a great relationship with many different customers. Some of these customers include different government entities such as the Department of State and some private companies like DynCorp. Having good relationships like these keeps the company moving in a forward direction. It also helps the company when it comes to future endeavors. By building a good reputation with these companies, it allows Company X to be able to reach out to potential new customers and have some good data that can be used to bid on new contracts. Because this project is for a foreign country, it makes it even more important to the success of the company in the future. Presently this project is bringing in a great amount of revenue for the company but it holds the key for many jobs in the future. If the contract is a success, not only will this customer order more helicopters but other customers will see the work Company X has done and want the to do the same.
