Pros and Cons in Medical Marijuana
For a long time the use of Cannabis, well know as Marijuana, has been a controversial topic, for its use as a recreational psychoactive drug and as a medical remedy all around the world. In today's time, such controversy is stronger than ever before for its purpose in medical use. Despite common ground exist proponents and opponents argue about the effectiveness of cannabis in medical use and the dangerous that it represents.
Proponents of medical marijuana focused on applying the beneficial effects of this drug to treat the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, and other conditions in an effort to improve the patient's quality of life. Medical marijuana has shown effectiveness at relieving nausea, vomiting, muscles' spasticity, appetite increase, and pain relief. Physician Joycelyn Elders says, "The evidence is overwhelming that marijuana can relieve certain types of pain, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms caused by such illnesses as multiple sclerosis, cancer and AIDS - or by the harsh drugs sometimes used to treat them. Opponents primarily argue about the use of medical marijuana because of the existing risk of psychosis, and the risk to develop certain types of cancer that its use might cause. Opponents also believe that the frequent use of marijuana as medical treatment can seriously damage your short-term memory, your cognitive ability, and your lung tissue. In addition, the use of marijuana as medicine can turn into addiction. Physician Bill Frist, who disagree with medical marijuana's use says, "Although I understand many believe marijuana is the most effective drug in combating their medical ailments, I would caution against this assumption due to the lack of consistent, repeatable scientific data available to prove marijuana's medical benefits... Based on current evidence, I believe that marijuana is a dangerous medicines offering the same relief from pain and other medical symptoms." In addition
