- CASE SUMARRY :
The case involves the following lead characters of Sagarmatha Dairy Union:
- Mr.Rajan –The Company Driver
- Mr.Somaraju –The Company Security Officer
- Mr.Suresh Mohan –The Company Personnel Manager
- The General Manager
- The Trade UNION
The case revolves around the conflict between Mr.Rajan and Mr.Somaraju which started on the afternoon of 23rd Jan,1993 , when Mr.Rajan the company Driver , on his way back to the plant from Nathadwara did not stop the vehicle near Sabjimandi inspite of the plant’s security officer , Mr.Somaraju signaling him to stop. The matter was reported to the General manager the following day by Mr.Somaraju . Upon seeking clarification the management got two conflicting versions of the incident from the two : Mr.Rajan and Mr.Somaraju . The management after much deliberation decided to investigate the matter more closely and as an interim arrangement which would not hurt both the parties, they thought the best decision would be to transfer Mr.Rajan to the production department of the plant from his current position as a driver. This lead to a tussle between the Trade Union and management with the Union threatening to teach management a lesson if the issue was not resolved quickly with Mr.Rajan being reinstated to his previous position.
The General Manager of the Plant has entrusted Mr.Suresh Mohan the personal manager to redress the issue in an appropriate manner.
- CURRENT SITUATION ANALYSIS :
The Management of Sagarmatha Dairy Union is caught in the conflict between two of its employees both of whom have a good track record in the company .The management cannot take a subjective view of the matter as it would mean hurting either of the parties , moreover in case of Mr.Rajan it would also mean hurting the Union as well .
So the management has to tread the path cautiously and resolve the conflict as soon as possible for the best interest of the company .
- GOALS:
To take both the conflicting parties into cognizance and resolving the matter in a mutually amicable way .
- PROBLEM STATEMENT :
To resolve the conflict between Mr.Rajan and Mr. Somaraju as soon as possible for the best interest of the company .
- DECISION CRITERIA :
- The innocent must not get punished .
- The morale and unity of the employees should not be disturbed .
- The functioning of the plant should not get affected.
- There should be thorough investigation only if situation demands .
- ASSUMPTIONS :
- It will affect the harmony of the company’s work environment , the employee morale ,the employee productivity and also the image of the company if the management go about identifying the offender and accordingly punishing them.
- By taking an objective view of the matter the company can resolve the conflict in the best possible way .
It can be said that unlike Mr.Rajan , Mr.Somaraju was adamant of getting the former punished by the management . The Management in order to resolve the matter in a mutually conducive way , can take a lenient stance towards Mr.Rajan by assuming that Mr.Somaraju might be hiding the truth or simply lying .Likewise also not taking a biased stance towards Mr.Somaraju as well.
