"A little bit of weed mixed with some hard liquor
Some vodka that'll jump start my heart quicker
Than a shock when I get shocked at the hospital"
If I said I listen to that type of music, you would know it is rap. But, not all rap is the same just like not all pasta is the same. It comes in many different forms. There is rap that is more controversial most notably Eminem. Some rappers rap about anything from stealing, drugs, and rape. But this is not the side of Hip Hop I want to portray.
"Rendered unconscious they rushed me to a concert
Instead of green jello, and maybe chicken soup
They fed me magazine covers, and video shoots"
But if you heard that. You would see why I believe rap could be genius. The use of double entandras, rhyme scheme, metaphors and many other literary elements is amazing. The amount of thought that goes in to some songs is astounding. While songs portray nonsense others ca nbe inspiring.
To the eyes of the public, rap is violence sex and drugs. They view Hip Hop culture as negative. People think that everyone involved is a bad person. However, Hip Hop is being viewed by only one side; there is a deeper meaning than what you may think. Hip Hop is a form of poetry and although some people like Jay Z may talk about many bad things. These bad things are what happened in his live.
However, rapping cannot hurt people. Maybe some things said are not politically correct and might be offensive. It is unfair to view Hip Hop by a little piece instead of viewing it as a whole. Fortunately, there are many rappers who have tried to better the image of rap by rapping about deeper things. For example, rappers such as Common, Lupe Fiasco, Wale and Nas have widened the themes of their songs. Also, the theme of Hip Hop is changing to many other things, from political issues as in Lupe Fiascos "Words I Never Said"...9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups Your child's future was the first to go with budget cuts... or to discussing the problems with Hip Hop as in Commons "I Used To Love Her".
To the "Hip Hop heads", like me this form of music is their lives. It changes everything u do in a day from what you where how you talk to how you walk. However, there are many haters of Hip Hop. This is one way for people to express themselves, and no one should try to take this away from them. Music in general should not be changed in any way because it is art. Maybe in some peoples mind not the most beautiful art. But this is what I believe.
