Regular employee versus independent contractors
Regular employees work for one person when independent contractors work for multiple people. Independent contractors provide the materials most times for the jobs that they are completing when regular employees are provided the materials for the job by the employer (Ellen Rosner Feig,2009). Independent contractors do not have benefits like regular employers such as 401k, dental, vision, and healthcare benefits. Independent contractors get paid by the job and not a weekly or bi-weekly pay check like regular employers from their employer. Independent contractors can be terminated at anytime by an employer with no notice and no unemployment because they work for themselves or an owner. Regular employees can be terminated with no notice or with notice and be given unemployment. Independent contractors do not go through training like regular employees. Independent contractors are responsible for their hours unlike regular employees. Regular employees work the hours that they are scheduled. Most Independent contractors use 1099 tax forms where regular employees use 1040 tax forms where taxes get taken from their pay, where independent contractors do not get taxes taken from their pay. Regular employees have to part of the FICA, Medicare, and etc, where independent contractors have to pay the higher self employment tax (Steve Parrish, 2013) . Regular employees have a regular salary and possibly bonuses where independent contractors do not have a regular salary and no bonuses. Regular employees have a team of people they work with that help motivate them and independent contractors have only themselves to motivate them.
