What is Sociology? Do I really need to know what it is? Is it important for us to have an idea what Sociology is? What is its relevance to my chosen course?

Well, Sociology is a part of social science where it discusses about society and human behavior. It aims at analyzing the patterns of human behavior, deriving their causes and speculating the future of the behavioral patterns in society. For me, it is a need to at least have an idea what it is all about because we encounter different person each day. We should have any knowledge about the religion, culture and tradition or anything about a person we met in order for us to know how to interact well with that person. Having knowledge about sociology helps us to lead an effective social life. Sociology also plays a role in our course especially when we already have our internship. It enables us to adjust into the environment. We will easily understand our patients and we will have a good relation towards each other. As a student, we also have to socialize from other students and that's what Sociology will teach us. It will give training to us to have a rational approach to questions concerning ourselves, our religion, customs, institutions and values. It will make us become more objective, rational, critical and dispassionate and broad-minded. With this, it will make our life richer, fuller and meaningful. Indeed, Sociology is of great practical help in the sense; it keeps us up-to date on modern social situations and developments. Sociology makes us to become more alert towards the changes and developments that take place around us. As a result, we come to know about our changed roles and expectations and responsibilities.
