In the sixteen hundreds, the colonies established in america were colonized due to two distinct societies. Religious and Economic. The emigrants who migrated were people from england, and they came for religious and economic reasons. Although many people could of came for other reasons, the difference in development occurred because a new world was perfect for discovering new riches and establishing different religions.
The religious factor was the reason for many colonies to be colonized. Many wanted to think differently from their churches so they migrated to the new world. in 1630, John Winthrop wanted New England colonies to be model christians communities (doc A). The in massachusetts people wanted everyone to have an equal share of things and have house that are proportional to them regardless of rich or poor. The people of massachusetts all mutually agreed to this (doc D). Many emigrants who were bound for New England were not alone (Doc B). They migrated with their families because they were coming over to start their own religion with others and have their families convert as well. Religion provided a reason to colonize numerous places in the new world.
The one reason that I believe is the main reason for colonizing is the economic reason. The emigrant who were bound for virginia in july,1635 were all mostly single men looking for work (Doc C). There were many people who came just for work, because there was many unknown riches yet to be found. Many people were money hungry people who worked non-stop to receive currency. Captain John Smith described the gold seekers as "the worst". There were even brawls and casualties for the gold that they have discovered (Doc F). There was many discussions about wages and prices in the new world. In connecticut, 1676 they regulated that all wages and prices shall be set by the general courts annually to avoid oppression (doc E). The economy of the new world was different from england, and people wanted a new change.
Although many people could of came for other reasons, the difference in development occurred because a new world was perfect for discovering new riches and establishing different religions. seven of the colonies were economic based, and the other five were religious based. These two societies were the start of a new country. these societies are what made us today.
