I believe that one of the norms that were performed in the movie Remember the Titans had to do with the conflict between Gerry and Julius working to overcome racial issues. For example at the beginning of Remember the Titans, Coach Boone's first request was for the white and black students to play football together They came to develop an unbelievable friendship built on trust and respect that was going to last for years to come. They finally learned to appreciate trusting a man for who they are as a person rather than the color of their skin. At first, in the movie Gerry and Julius would not acknowledge one another, they were like enemies. They both had hatred and fear in their eyes or each other. They both lived their own separate lives, with their own race, and refused to interact with other. And if they communicated in a civil manner with the other race it was like committing as awful sin. They treated each other with such ignorance and hatred. And couldn't stand each other, but also hated the way the other race acted. Gerry and Julius found out they were going to be on the same football team at first they didn't wanted to consider the possibility. Both were narrow minded and stubborn which resulted in neither seeing the other side of thing. Anyway as they both matured the closer they became, the more they forgot about their differences and the more they defended their friends. The majority of the time they approached their conflict by denial of the conflict ever happening, changing and avoiding topics, not taking things to the heart and joking rather than dealing with the conflict.

In this example of friendship, they learn to trust each other, respect each other and work together, which I believe are very important values to have in a friendship and is more important than just winning football games.

And I believe some sanctions were when Gerry accepted Julius as his friend and was willing to introduce him to his girlfriend. Because of the rule that block and white can't play together she walked away but later disobeys it and understood that color is just a color, and a person can love you no matter where and how you look. Another sanction I looked at in Gerry and Julius relationship is when Gerry bestfreiend allowed another player from opposite team to hit his teammate and didn't block him because of that same believe that race shouldn't be together. But cause of the trust Gerry had for Julius in disobey the law and rule to do what is right for his team, friends and families.
