The Pritzker Pavilion
Chicago is one of the largest and most beautiful cities and home to many wonderful parks and venues. It is also true that the newest and most innovative is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion located right in the heart of downtown Chicago at Millennium Park on Randolph Street between Michigan and Columbus Avenue. The Pavilion stands 120-feet high, with a billowing headdress of brushed stainless steel ribbons that frame the acoustics of an indoor concert hail by distributing enhanced sound equally over both fixed seats and the lawn. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is home to the Grant Park Orchestra and music festival where varieties of outdoor concerts and free events take place specifically during the warm summer season. While it is true that this venue is a great place to enjoy outdoor concerts and summer events, the pavilion is also known for its beautiful and artistic architecture.
Famous architect Frank Gehry is responsible for the popular attractions such as the Jay Pritzker pavilion and the BP Bridge located in Millennium Park. He is an award winning architect who was born in Toronto February 28th, 1929. In 1947 while he was still a young teen Gehry moved to Los Angeles with his family and eventually became a citizen of the United States. Later in his life he attended a Los Angeles City College where he enrolled in his first architecture class and was immediately fascinated by the different varieties of art and after a lot of hard work and determination he became a successful architect. He eventually established his own company known as Ghery Partners, LLP. He worked with many international styles, but he was mostly passionate about the avant-garde arts scene since he grew up surrounded by the beach communities of Santa Monica and Venice.
Frank Gehry was known for his many talented architectural structures many that he had built such as furniture, homes, the Santa Monica Place shopping mall, the Virta furniture factory in Basel, Switzerland, and the Virta design Museum in Germany, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and many more. Other than the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Ghery was responsible for the completion of other wonderful concert venues like the Walt Disney Concert hall in downtown Los Angeles and the New World Symphony Concert Hall in Miami Beach.
Chicago has always been a wonderful with a beautiful skyline, but the Jay Pritzker Pavilion was a great addition to our amazing city. I myself have been to Millennium Park to see the different pieces of art, the BP Bridge, and the Pritzker Pavilion and I am always astonished by how gorgeous and creative everything looks. It definitely makes me appreciate my city much more. However, it is unfortunate that I have not yet had the opportunity to attend one of the concerts at the Pritzker Pavilion, but I am excited to say that I have now placed it on my list of things to do during the summer of 2012.
