Returning to School

Being a single parent, all I wanted to do was take care of myself and my three daughters. Making sure they had everything they needed was my top priority. It was all about them, and I was satisfied as long as they were satisfied. Then it happened; after working 24 years at an accounting firm as an administrative assistant, I got fired. For two years I was so cantankerous, I did not know what to do. I kept telling myself this could not be happening to me. After finally calming down, I went looking for another job. Everywhere I went, they wanted someone with a college degree. I then made a bold decision to go back to school. I talked with my daughters about returning to school and they enthusiastically approved.
Even as a little girl I can remember teaching other children on my block how to tie their shoes. At work, I was always acquiring new technics and teaching it to my coworkers. I really enjoy teaching others especially little children. By returning to school, I hope that opportunities in my career on becoming a teacher will open up for me in future jobs. By returning to school, I will learn more and experience new courses that I would never have thought of taking in my lifetime. Returning to school and obtaining a degree, will advance my chances of becoming employed as a teacher in the work field. The writing center, the library, along with the e-source material will be very useful in my studies.
I definitely believe that one of the major obstacles of returning to school, is that I have not been to school for some time. This process of being a student again is scary. It can become a little overwhelming with balancing studying, completing assignments, and enjoying family time all at once. We all know that "If you don't use it, you lose it!" I've always taught my children to strive for perfection and now that I'm a student again, I apply the same rules to myself. I do believe that with devotion to these classes, I will get through them with excellent grades. It is the ambition inside me that will get me through school.
My goal has always been to get my college degree in early childhood education. Family and being in the workforce for more than 24 years made it harder for me to return to school. Now that my children are adults, I have more time to pursue my school goals. There were many reasons I decided to return back to school. One main reason is the fact that obtaining a degree is one of the major personal goals I set for myself and not completing that goal would be unacceptable. The second reason I felt the need to return to school is so that my family may become more financially stable. Lastly, I decided to return back to school so that I can gain more knowledge and experience in becoming a teacher. I wanted to continue my education and decided to continue by enrolling at Ashford University. I want my degree to not only gain more knowledge, experience and interpersonal
