Robin Hood Case

1. Robin Hood's current mission:

We, Robin hood's and his band have the mission to liberate Nottingham from the corruption of Prince John, the Sheriff and all their allies by establishing financial equality and re-distribution of resources by empowering our hard working and honest farmers as well as the townspeople.

2. Write a set of strategic goals for Robin Hood's current operation as well as a description of the strategy that he is pursuing to accomplish each goal.

Self sustainability: The growing members must be self sustained by "carrying their own weight" by providing effective services depending on their specific function within the band (Robbers, hunters, fishermen, farmers, etc) .

Financial equality of the townspeople: by stealing from the rich and providing to the poor. Anticipate Rich people movements to maximize encounters and effectiveness.

Overthrow current Sheriff: Gain enough support from the people of Nottingham to overpower the corruption from the current authorities so, they lose support and ultimately the power.

Band Growth: Recruit effective members by screening and organizing the candidates in different groups depending on their expertise and the band's needs. Controlled growth (in number and geographically) is imperative for the prosperity of the group.

3. Describe the problems that Robin Hood faces at the end of the case.

The decrease in revenues is probably the biggest issue. The rich travelers have started to take other ways to their destination bypassing the forest and leaving the band robbing travelers with less resources. At the same time these poorer travelers are the band's main political support.

The growing band is starting to exceed the food capacity of the forest so they are having to obtain resources from other villages which result in an expensive operation. In another words, the band is spending past gains in current problems and hopes that revenue will grow as fast as the size of the band. Meanwhile its competition (The Sheriff) is becoming better organized and growing stronger.

Another problem Robin hood is facing is maintaining good communication and discipline with all the members of the band, (specially with the new recruits) the informal communication channels are not longer effective because of the size of the band.

Robin Hood will need to make a decision quickly before the Sheriff decides to unleash his fatal attack against the band. All the alternatives have pros and cons that needs to be carefully weighted against each other in order to take the best course of action.

4. What strategies would you suggest to Robin Hood to cope with these problems? Make sure that you discuss how each of your strategies would be implemented.
