Role of Nurses

Nursing is an exciting and challenging field to study. Nursing uses a scientific process to plan care for people in acute illnesses and teach them how to stay healthy or cope with their illness. Nursing has always played a vital role and served as a second option in my career path and life. The love that I have for children would be one of my motives behind wanting to serve in a career as a registered nurse, who specializes in pediatrics. In my research paper my first paragraph will educate on what nursing is and how it came about. Are nurses the most important human component of the system? The information in my research will explain fully on the vital role nurses play in the nation's health care industry. Thirdly, I will talk about how and why the salaries for nursing will increase dramatically in the near future.
Nursing is a healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, and communities so they maintain, attain, or recover optimal health and qualify of life from birth to death (diplomaguide 2010). Nurses work in a large variety of specialties where they work independently and as part of a team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The authority for the practice of nursing is based upon a social contract that delineates professional rights and responsibilities as well as mechanisms for public accountability (diplomaguide 2010). In almost all countries, nursing practice is defined and governed by law, and entrance to the profession is regulated at national or state level.
Nurses are important in our society today, because nurses are the nation's health care industry. Outside an operating room nearly as large a percentage of actual administration of healing vectors is done by the nursing or technician staff (education-portal 2010). NDC stated, "that 90 percent of comforting talk that a patient receives is from the nurse, and 99 percent of the touching that a patient receives is from the nurse" (education-portal 2010). Nurses are the ones who have the opportunity to see healing and nurturing take place. With caring for others comes a deep appreciation for the human spirit. Doctors are often hurried and unable to adequately listen to all of the concerns their patients may have. It is the job of the nurse to relay the vital information to the doctor in charge to make sure their patients are taken care of (education-portal 2010). Among the many other duties a nurse performs in the hospital, listening to what their patients have to say about how they are feeling and what they need is one of the most important aspects of being a good nurse.
One of the most rewarding careers is nursing, not only because of the care being given to patients who may be suffering life threatening illnesses, but because it is also a career that has room for advancement (careertollkits 2010).
