Romeo and Juliet Review
Were Buz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet (1996) as good as Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (1968)? Buz had a lot of famous actors; Leonardo DiCapro, Claire Danes, Harold Perrineau and many more. The back ground was set in the streets of Mexico City with the Monique's and Capulet's as major businesses in the city. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy but the director also puts in gun fights that make it more like an action movie.
This movie was an okay movie. Some parts I liked and others I didn't. I liked the actors; Leonardo Dicapro did a great job with his part I think. He was very dramatic at times and I think that help his part a lot. Claire Danes did a great job on her part as well, she was very dramatic and when they were both dramatic at the same time it made the movie flow and it was done very well.
I like how Buz had them speaking William Shakespeare old English and had the time set in modern times. I thought that was really interesting to watch and listen to. It made me pay more action to the movie so I could understand what they were talking about.
I didn't like the gun fights all that much. They got super cheesy and there wasn't that much blood. The guns looked fake and they had them to fancy. If I were to re-do it I would spend more money improving the blood and use guns that didn't look so fake and cheesy.
I didn't like how that cut out some scene of the book. I wish they would have out all the scene in that would have made it better. They skipped the scene were Paris gets shot that would have been an important part to see and that would have made the movie better.
Buz Luhrman had great actors, a beautiful setting, and use William Shakespeare language in his movie I still think it only deserves a C+, because it cut out scene and got confusing at times and it got super cheesy at times and I didn't really like the MTV music video feel like Owen Gleiberman. All in all not a bad movie though.
