Romeo and Juliet thesis essay

The parental relationships of the houses played a big part in the death of two lovers. In Williams Shakespeare's' Romeo and Juliet the lack of parental guidance and a strong bond leads to the death of two star crossed lovers.

In this play the parents of Juliet are displayed as overpowering and demanding, which caused them to never think that they could not control her life completely. For example when her parents wanted her to marry Paris not by will but, as a must. Lady Capulet said "Well think of marriage now. Younger then you here in Verona ladies of esteem, is made already mothers."(19) From this it is clear that Lady Capulet wants her to get married by her will or not. Even when she announced she doesn't want to marry Paris she is completely disowned. Capulet said "I tell thee what, get thee to church o' Thursday or never after look me in the face. Speak not, reply not, do not answer me: my finger itch."(81) From this quote it is clear that Capulet is demanding of Juliet's' obedient. He thinks he controls her life completely. Her parents are also seen as overpowering when Juliet asked for an extension of the marriage. Lady Capulet replied "Talk not to me, for I will not speak a word. Do as thou wilt for I have done with thee."(82)Just as Capulet did, Lady Capulet treated her with a total lack of respect for her wants.

Unlike Juliet's' parents Romeos' are more free willing and neglectful. Because of this they were never able to create as strong as they should have had. One of the prime examples was exemplified in the beginning of the play. When Capulet said "I would thou wert so happy by thy stay to her true shrift. Come, madam, let's away."(9) This is clear evidence that the parents are neglectful and will try anything but, talk to him because they cannot get through to him, even if that's their son. Even when he is always out partying with the other boys of Capulet there was never a scene in the play where he confronted Romeo for his actions. When Romeo said "can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth and find thy centre out."(31) Romeo was planning to stay out all night with Juliet who was in her house safe will he was out risking his life. Even in the end, the tragic death of the two lovers, it showed again how neglectful they were as while as Juliet's parents. At the scene of the death Capulet said "grief of my son's exile hath stopped her breath what further woe conspires against mine age."(111) Because of the lack of interest he took in his child, this was the final result. if they were more concerned about Romeo then they could have forestalled this tragic incident.

In addition to both parents having their own characteristic neither family really had a strong
