San Diego Periodicals:Following the Data Flow-Implementation
The definition of the word implementation is to put something into effect [or action] according to or by means of a definite plan or procedure (Dictionary, 2011). In the case of information system implementation the definition would be the act of moving from the development stage of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), to the information system's production phase (Centers for Disease, 2008). During this phase of the San Diego Periodical's new information system the objectives and goals to be met will be construction of software components, verification, testing, conversion of data, system installation, integration, deployment, training, and documentation. Training will pertain to using, operating, and maintaining the company's new information system (Maryland, 2011 and Satzinger, 2004).
Documentation-Training
The implementation phase of the new system is step four in the SDLC; however, even the implementation phase has steps, which must be followed (if this makes sense). The steps in implementing the San Diego Periodical's new information system are as follows.
* Review phase prerequisites
* Monitor project performance
* Update PMP (Project Management Plan) and communication management plan
* Perform risk management activities
* Initiate implantation activities
* Deploy system in production environment
* Send the change implementation notice
* Review security plan
* Execute the training plan
* Develop the standard operating procedures
* Confirm system documentation completeness
* Conduct post-implementation reviews
* Review project performance
* Assess stakeholder satisfaction
* Review project conformance
* Identify project achievements
* Identify gaps in project fulfillment and failures
* Identify lessons learned
* Perform project closure activities (Maryland Department, 2011).
Support
These responsibilities are split between the project manager and the development team or the integrated project team. During the implementation phase of the San Diego Periodical, new information system the project manager will be responsible for leading the development team through their assigned objectives and goals; along with providing documentation evaluating the new system once, the system has been created. During the creation of the system, the project manager will review implementation prerequisites, monitor project performances, and perform risk management activities. Other project management responsibilities will pertain to reviewing the security plan, executing the training plan, confirming system documentation completeness, conducting post-implementation completeness, and performing closure activities (Maryland, 2011, and Centers for Disease, 2008).
