School Psychologist

A school psychologist works within the school system to help the children with their academic issues, social problems, and their emotional feelings. A school psychologist assists student individually, as well as in groups, dealing with behavioral problems, disabilities and other issues. Their role collaborates with parents, teachers and of course the students to promote a healthy learning environment that focus on the needs of children. They also end up working with the parents, and teachers to develop different techniques to deal with classroom and home behavior.

You may find most school psychologist working in elementary and secondary schools, but they flourishing different areas correspondingly, for example, private clinics, hospitals, universities, and state agencies. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook estimates show $58,360, the average annual salary for a psychologist working in the school system. Because of the special training that's involved, a school psychologist holds a higher degree than many of their colleagues. In fact, in some places, either a Doctorate or Specialist degree (Ed.S) is required. The Specialist degree is an extended Master's degree.

Each state has different requirements for this position, for instance eighteen states now require National Association of School Psychologist certification, and/ or have a degree that has NASP, or American Psychological Association (APA) approval. I consider this as a great profession for myself, since I love working with children, and I always held interest in helping the youth going through matters throughout their early years. Doesn't matter if it's a school bully, dealing with issues of a single parent house hold, abuse, both verbal, physical, or even sexual. This profession always stood out to me more than other psychology careers, because as a child i went through home issues and never really had anyone to talk to and express myself.
