I bring you another book review. This serial, Septimus Heap, is actually not newly published, but somehow only few know about it.

Still from fantasy genre, this series written by English woman Angie Sage, are taking set in make-believe country inhabited by wizards, witches, ghost, royal family, merchants, and commoners. As well as other serials which use a character’s name as their titles, Septimus Heap was a protagonist of the series, who, in the early part of the story, was described as a boy not aware of his identity. What about the antagonist? There were many, each new book mentioned another evil character. So far, five (5) books had been released:

- Magyk

- Flyte

- Physik

- Queste

- Syren

The author is currently still working on the sixth book, which rumour said is going to be titled Darke. In total, there will be seven (7) books as per planned by Ms. Sage. A lot? Hmmm, not really. Anyway, seven (7) is my favourite number.

Speaking of number seven (7), a central figure Septimus Heap was a seventh son of a seventh son, which means that he was a seventh son of his father (Silas Heap) whom also was a seventh son. Therefore, it was believed that Septimus had potential to be a very great wizard. The story was indeed built on the relationship amongst the Heap family, which was considered a big family because of the seven boys it had. Please don’t picture yet the seven brothers who were constantly fighting each other, nor naively imagine those brothers singing in harmony like a boys band. The Heap brothers were not like that. They were normal boys; some were born with good traits while others sometimes took unfavoured life. They shared different interests and skills; maybe that is why they could help each other, especially the little brother Septimus who was frequently challenged by life.

More to those seven boys, the Heap also had an adopted “princess” and a grandfather whom decided to be part of forest. So the Heap family lived not under the same roof. They dwelled in the forest, desert, old castle, wizard academy, and one of them was very much at home whenever he was at the open sea. These separated residences did not result in ignorance between them. Quite the reverse, you’ll clearly find the very solid bond within the family members; how they supported each other in acknowledging every mess ups and downturns of life; without the slightest grumble, they instantly tried their very best to be able to do something for the misfortune one.

If you pay a close look on the titles, you’ll notice that the words are somehow a bit unusual, distinctive from their true words in English. Here is what the author had to say about
