Sexting Is a World Wide Epidemic
Life is surrounded with choices and technology. There are good and bad choices that are made by people. Most importantly you have to deal with the consequences of either a bad or good choice. Technology can be awesome in many different situations. It can be awesome for school work and other aids pertaining to education. But technology can be bad in situations also because; some people do things like stay on the computer all day long. Technology causes health problems, due to the fact of not exercising regularly. A huge down fall that many people face and observe through technology is sexting. After reading this essay it will inform you on the issue of sexting among teens and why it is such a problem, the consequences of sexting, and celebrity's thoughts and feedback on this issue. Why is sexting so popular?
Sexting is the slang term for the use of a cell phone or other similar electronic device, to distribute pictures or video of sexually explicit images. "According to 2009 study by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, 15 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 17 say they have received sexually suggestive photos or videos on their cell phones. But only 4 percent said they had sent a naked image. Studies that focused on older students found somewhat higher numbers" (The Washington Post 2). Sexting is popular because most people are to shy to have sex. It is way harder to get caught sexting, rather than your parents walking on you and your partner. Sexting is not as bad as actually having sex. Sexting is done between teenage people who are either in a relationship or good friends. Teens seem to take this action to either satisfy a
boyfriend, girlfriend, and or sex partner needs. Teenagers think it is perfectly fine to be involved in sexting, especially if the two are sexually active with each other. People are looking at sexting as part of the teenage culture. Sexting is also a way for people who are dating online to get a chance to know one another more from a physical point of view.
Sexting is a choice young teen make not realizing the consequences. Adults are also making childish mistakes as well. These consequences are severe and will follow you for the rest of your life. Some consequences that teens are forced to face while sexting is humiliation. Those teens are humiliated by the irresponsible choices they have made. At some point it affects you forever. People would rather not be involved with someone who has been broadcasted over sexting. Sexting is a hurtful thing for not only the person who was broadcasted and his or her family, but also for the person who did took part in that mean action by forwarding it to everybody in his or her phone. After being caught sexting you lose respect, friends, and become self conscious of your body and surroundings. From my understanding people tend to change schools due to the teasing and embarrassment issue. While others face jail time or some sort of trouble with the law enforcement. Which mean one is missing out on education and the great times and years from high school. It is truly a large issue that results with the attorney says so at the end of the day. Some attorneys believe there are many unanswered question about whether young people who send their own photos could force prosecution for obscenity or child pornography.
