Argumentative Essay

Should we always tell the truth?

Do you always tell the truth or lies? You are not likely to reply immediately because this question is very extreme. While we live, we cannot always tell the truth, and we also cannot always tell lies. May be, it will depend on the situation that you encountered. There are innumerable reasons why most people tell lies to others. Usually, we tell lies to hide own fault or show off ourselves. There are a little bit different lies, of course, these are white lies. White lies are also lies, but these can be understood by people because it does not have ill will. Except white lies, we should try to tell the truth. It is difficult, but it is important for us to be truthful with other people because by being honest, we can keep the relationship between people with faith, we show what is morally right, and we do not become a liar.

Firstly, we can keep the relationship between people with faith by telling the truth. It means that there is trust between people to keep the relationship each other. Because of telling lies, however, they can loss mutual trust, so they cannot believe each other anymore. For example, when I was 14 years old, I made a friend who was very funny and active in middle school. We were best friend each other at that time. My thought and her thought were same, but the more I knew her deeply, the more I was disappointed. She usually told lies to me every day, so I was losing some trust about her gradually. However, she was not bad person, and her nature was not vicious either. Because I knew her very well, I could not hate her, so we are friend until now. Merely, I thought that she was pitiful person. She bragged herself by making up some story. She did not realize that people did not believe her story. I told her many times, but it was useless. Now, I hear her story by using my self-filter.

Secondly, we show what is morally right. If everyone went around lying to each other, no one would trust anyone and nothing would get done. As a member of society, we should strive for its advancement and we will never be able to do that by lying. Lying only leads to more lying, and the circle is hard to escape from. For example, when I was young, my allowance was insufficient for me to spend. Because of this reason, I told a lie to my mother to get much money. At that time, I framed up that I needed some money to buy books. She gave some money, and I bought a lot of comic books by using the money. After a few days, she called me and said to me, “If you bought some books, bring the receipt.” I was pretty embarrassed and I made a shift with another lie. Finally, I made up another lie to evade the situation. I said to her, “I am sorry mom. I lost the book receipt, so I do not have now.” I relieved after I said this, but she was powerful enemy. She said to me, “If so, show me those books that you bought yesterday right now.” In this situation, I could not say anything to excuse, so I told the truth to her. “Mom, I am really sorry, but I wanted to buy some comic books indeed. That is it. Please forgive me.” Then she said, “Oh my daughter, I could understand your act although you told the truth. But, telling lies is very bad habit because you should make a big lie to hide first thing. I want to raise my daughter who has sincere mind and pure conscience. Do you understand what I mean?” After this event, I tried to tell the truth.
