Silence of Women(Poem Analysis)
Women have come a long way into being where they stand right now. Women from not having a right to vote are now on a ballot for you to vote. Women from staying at home and being a housewife all their life are now leaders of nations, company's, and so forth. Women from depending on men every time now live independently. Women never questioning a demand from their husbands now have as many rights as men do. Silence of Women explains how far women have come from just answering with "yes sir" into demanding their husbands in what to do. It is a narrative poem explaining how women are becoming more demanding and how men become more vulnerable as they age. It explains how the change of roles for women expands as time passes. It shows of how Liz is rebelling in how society views women and the role they play in their family as well as their social life.
At a young age, women always took order from men. It was normal. From reading the poem, I feel as if Liz Rosenberg is frustrated with how society views women and their roles. She is so frustrated that she writes her feelings out in this poem. I feel as if she is coming from a life experience as well. I say this because of the diction she uses. She really describes the anger women has held for so long in being silent. The usage of words such as "hissing bent as snakes" explains that for so long they have held it so long keeping it to themselves that now is the time to let the society know. Let the society know that their view of women is wrong and that women have the same right men do.
This poem really caught up my attention because it is as if Rosenberg is going against what society has in say about women. I strongly feel as if the poem is true. Society's view on women is discrimination in gender. Women have every right as men do. Now a days you see for yourself how women are moving up into taking charge over men. They are moving up in status. They are making themselves known out to the world in holding high positions in the government, companies and so forth. This writing ought to be one of my favorites so far from this class because of its points and views in being a woman.
