Slavery is a form of excess and/or forced human labor that mistreats and violates the slaves' human rights. I believe slavery is a social and cultural construction, because all human acts, rules, laws, values, traditions, etc. are created in name of culture, which is enforced by humans. Humans create culture. They also have the capability to change or stop it. As seen today, slavery has been abolished, however, what replaces it are its different forms of slavery like human trafficking, forced prostitution, etc. The ideology of slavery to me identifies the selfishness of the social hierarchies that try to maintain their authority and maintain their ancestral prestige by permanently creating a caste system in terms of capital. They do this by heightening their allies, and lessening the worth of others through their monetary ownership, race, gender, etc. They also facilitate and prosper their needs by establishing slavery to have people of color or those 'born less deserving' believe that they were born with no rights and their lives to serving their owners. This is a shameful act. In my opinion, the social system was constructed distortedly, purposefully in favor of certain groups, leading society to face the entanglements it does today. Overall, slavery is cultural, because humans were the ones that created it and made it happen. It is also unethical, because no one deserves to be mistreated, forced to work extensively without being paid, discriminated, tortured, abused, not allowed to make any decisions or destine their own life, and most of all, not having the freedom in their lives.
