Social media. Making the unseen seen.

In the last few years, the internet, digital and mobile technologies and social media tools like blogs, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook have rapidly changed how information is shared and spread. This change, shifts the power from the government and traditional media to the people. Providing us with a window into events and lives of others who used to be very distant.

Today, we know more about several countries like Iran, Egypt and Yemen not only from what their state's media wants to share or from selected western media but, more importantly, from the people! In this, social media has provided a new generation of leaders with a voice to express their views and reach out to a larger audience. Hereby we can conclude: everyone with access to internet has potential political power.

Thanks to social media the leaders of today have been reminded that there is no better time to work together with the people. To try and create a better world. when so many people can reach a national or global leader via a tweet, and that official can send a response in real-time, you know that a new type of conversations has been developed.

It's a good reminder that social media gives voice to the voiceless, sometimes quite literally. It enables conversations that couldn't otherwise happen and builds relationships and trust between colleagues and strangers alike. Sometimes these technologies may seem to lack any serious purposes, but they can also be incredibly powerful and empowering. Wise men say: the pen is mightier than the sword. our words are powerful and have effect on those you absorb them. It's important we not lose sight of that bigger picture.
