Soldiers suffered at Valley Forge. Sick soldiers everywhere, poor food, small huts. The harsh times caused multiple soldiers to quit. If I were a soldier at Valley Forge I would have quit because,of the many deaths, and whether or not it was worth it to stay.

Death was a major problem at Valley Forge, For example (Doc A) states that in February of 1778 there were eight thousand soldiers. Out of those eight thousand soldiers, half of them got sick. Fact estimate of American soldiers who died were 1,800 to 2,500. This shows that during that time it was difficult to survive. In fact, a Connecticut soldier named Dr.Albigence Waldo wrote a diary and stated ¨The army which has been surprisingly healthy hitherto, now begins to grow sickly¨ (Doc C).By what Waldo has said it shows that some of those deaths are because of poor food, harsh conditions and small huts.

I would have quit because, we were starting to lose soldiers. Many soldiers were dying of sickness and being cold. In (Doc A) it states that they had up to 1,800 to 2,500 soldiers who had died during the winter. The army had started out with 12,000 and by February it dropped down to 8,000. Many died because they either got ill or really sick. In (Doc C) it describes the conditions the soldiers were in. It says soldiers were sick “poor food, hard lodging cold weather, fatigue, bad food, and terrible clothing. From all that stuff i would have definitely quit.

At Valley Forge living conditions were far from great. Dr.Waldo wrote,”Heartily wish myself at home, my skin and eyes are almost spoil’d with continual smoke”(Doc C).He also mentions in Document C how there is “poor food, harsh weather, and the food and clothes are disgusting.Based on all this information i still would have quit from the beginning.Even George Washington realized how bad it had gotten.Soldiers would cry “No meat!No meat!”. Just from that he presented the army to the Congressional Committee to show they need better shelter, food, and clothing (Doc B). Staying at Valley Forge some of the soldiers were even willing to quit.
