Christmas is a Traditional Holiday I have celebrated for many years, since I came to this Country. My children have always asked me the reason of the celebration, since my religious beliefs contradict my actions. I was raised as a Jehovah Witness, as a little girl back in my Country. One question that I have always asks my self, is the reason behind this celebration.

My parents back in Cuba practice the Jehovah Witness religion. Is a religion that doesn't believe in Holiday Celebration, including birthdays or weddings. We always had bible studies at home, because that particular religion was not suppose to be practice in Cuba, for political and communist reasons. When we came to this Country we freely practice the religion, and never celebrated any Holidays. It was quite frustrating for me, seeing my friends celebrating their birthdays and Holidays, and I couldn't. My father was an elderly at the church, he use to give wonderful speeches reinforcing our beliefs. I was pretty used to letting Holidays past by until I became independent and my life took a different turn. I started celebrating Christmas and every Holiday, but not because I truly knew the meaning. It was just a way to do what others did. My Children ask me why we celebrate something we don't believe in. Unfortunately I don't have an answer. It's kind of following other people's traditions.

One thing I do recognize is that all Holidays including Christmas are very stressed for many people, including myself, sometime I wish I had stayed a non-believer. It is the time of the year that people go in debts with their credit buying gifts for other people or family member. Christmas Celebration, has it pros and cons. I understand that family do reunite and spend time together, which is quite comforting. Schools are closed for two weeks. I can only said I do celebrate Christmas but don't believe in the meaning or the background of its nature, since Jesus Christ was not born on the December 24. I see other people during the Christmas Season and the spirit they showed, I can never relate to that. It a bit frustrating doing something just because others do, but it's part of a Tradition from other people that I follow which will never make sense to my self and family.
