Reflection Paper – Strength Due
FYS
Doing the Strength Quest, was very funny and a get some new experience. The test showed my strengths in the following order: Achiever,Competition, Communication, Command and Relator. I must say that none of them were not surprised me, even though I would have thought that the Relator strength should be before the Command. As understand and know my tendencies and strengths, it is enormous advantage to be successful and to reach my goals, whether they are athletics (I play DIV. I Soccer), or academic, or even some general life goals. Indeed, it is very important to know myself and how I work the best I can in order to be the best person I can possibly be.
Academic goal is pretty much simple; Mine wish is to graduate from University with a master degree. That will benefit me in every way. Whether it’s to find a job after graduation or just gain me knowledge and understands on the area of my Major. For now, my major is International Business, but as I am a freshman I still can change them, what very likely I would do in the next few months as I continue my school experience. However, in order to reach that goal, I have to set myself some intermediate, and clear goals that will definitely help me to be successful.
The first one of that goals is to have 3.0 GPA or higher. I think having that GPA in mind throughout all my years at HBU should be helpful in the way that it should (have to) push me every single day, every week, every month, to learn, to do all my homework and do not fall behind in the class. However, I am on academic scholarship and if I want to keep my scholarship I have to keep at least 3.0 GPA, therefore it’s not like that I had the choice!
The second goal is to develop a good relationship with my professors throughout the all semesters of my education. It is from crucial important to feel comfortable with teachers to get the most out of them in terms of education and learning. I believe I can do that by attending all of my classes, showing interest in the classroom, participating, and being up to date with the readings. If I am able do all that while playing soccer for the university, which means practicing for hours every day and to miss classes every few week, then I know that I should be in pretty good form.
As far as vocational calling I am thousand percent into soccer right now. Currently, the only job that affects me is to be a professional soccer player. I still did not find another profession that inspire me. But I surely know that I don’t want to sit in an office for hours every day. Honestly, like I said before I really trust that during my education in college I will find another vocation than pro soccer player.
Out of the five signature strengths that came up, I think Competition and Achiever will surely help me the most in order to be successful. I hesitated with Communication as well but I personally put it with Achiever because both goes together for me. The another two, Command and Relator, are more, well, let say social oriented. Therefore I don’t believe they will help me so much. Even though it is key to surround myself with competent people that I trust, especially in a team sport such as soccer. Anyways I consider being Communicative more significant. Having good communication and strive for goals (achievements) is advantageous since it helps me to take the right decisions. I strongly believe it is key to take the time to balance between the cons and pros when making decision, and this will help me as in education, as well in soccer.
