it is a tale on morality and a heros struggle. the reader can relate to it all. it started off with Homer's tales of the Illiad and the Odyssey. we can relate, sympathise, and watch a story unfold with obstacles in the way.
we can apply the rules to todays life and stories are continously updated. you could also mention the modern day struggle of the desire to fit in and use miller's play death of a sales man ...although from the start he is doomed to fail , he is constantly under pressure to survive and live up to the american dream,,,his modern day comparison is the character of Homer Simpson. (again take our hats off to Homer here)....
Homer's poems were epics and would have been guidelines and moral codes to follow before christianity. we like someone who is mortal and yet survives.
also look at greek myths like Perseus and note how his story is then incorporated but changed for modern day purposes in the Clash of the Titans. a struggle between the Gods and Mortals is also a good example to use. i could go on. but there are some ideas for you to research, do not just quote me. good luck!!
