Swot Analysis of Usm

INTRODUCTION

SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture.

SWOT Analysis S = Strengths W = Weaknesses O = Opportunities T = Threats .It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective.

Strength of USM

* The strength of University Science Malaysia (USM) was established as Apex University. The selection is not only based on past achievements and excellence, but more on the planning for the future and whether the university is able to achieve a world-class status within the stipulated period of five years. Thus, this can prove that USM is a strongest university in Malaysia.

* USM was recognize as Malaysia's premier research university,along with it being the only 5 stars institution of higher learning to date.

* Its most recent internationally acclaimed status as ASEAN's only Regional Center of Expertise of Education for Sustainable Development accorded by the United National University in 2005.

* Lately, a USM lecturer have design a degradable plastic bag which is good for our environment, this is one of the successful research from USM. USM also is one of the universities that implement the sustainable program. The authorities of USM were announced USM as a free plastic bag zone.

WEAKNESS OF USM

USM also has a lot of weaknesses:

* Midlead thousands of students into believing they had been accept by the university.

* May 30 computer glith,4574 applicants were mistakenly informed that they had been accepted into USM as its first batch of APEX students.

* The limited space of USM campus also is one of the big problems. Since main campus in Penang has a limited space, so USM was separate it to become three campuses, which are main campus, engineering campus, and health campus. These campuses are far from each other and very hard to contact, so it is not easy to manage.

* Online system is the most problem that complained by the students. Last year, USM has spent a lot of money to upgrade the online system, but the result is very disappointed, it affects the students in doing their assignment.
