Mr Penchiala,

I have reviewed Tangelwood Department Store's strategic staffing decisions by researching the organization's past and current practices along with their competitors. You will find in this report that I have reviewed the 13 sections you asked me to review and I have weighed them based on the organization's mission and values. Please review my findings below:

Acquire or Develop Talent

Tanglewood, is primarily a retail outlet with a large number of stores and employees, I recommend focusing on developing talent instead of acquiring it. The reason I believe that developing talent in-house is more beneficial is because it costs less to develop employees inside the company than hiring outside.

Current employees have made suggestions as to how the organization could operate more efficiently and they understand Tanglewood's mission and core values which in turn promotes loyalty and longevity within the organization. If Tanglewood keeps acquiring talent rather than developing it employees could become restless and leave the organization as well as stop offering opinions/suggestions to management because they feel their opinions don't matter or aren't good enough.

Hire Yourself or Outsource

I believe that it would be in Tanglewood's best interest to stick with the Human Resources structure that they currently have of hiring qualified candidates themselves. Tanglewood has an Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator on staff that is well versed in equal opportunity laws that ensure the organization is in compliance and adhering to current employment laws. The Human Resources department may also have a stronger familiarity with the employees of the organization which can help Tanglewood interview and hire better candidates that help reflect the organization's core values. Some of the best candidates can come from current employee referrals.

External or Internal Hiring

In my opinion, I believe Tanglewood would benefit and flourish more as an organization if they hired internally. Employees that currently work for the organization have experience and knowledge about the inner workings of the organization that could prove to be more useful and beneficial than bringing in someone externally.

Core or Flexible Workforce

Tanglewood, already has an established core workforce and I believe they should maintain it. It is important for Tanglewood to show their employees consistency and understanding of their organizational culture.

Hire or Retain

Tanglewood should focus on retaining its employees. The organization has a retention manager already on staff in their Human Resources Department. The retention manager should already have several tactics developed to retain employees and should implement them on a regular basis. It is important to keep employees engaged and feeling valued within an organization in order to retain them.

National or Global

Tanglewood is based within the United States and all of the stores they own and operate are within the United States as well. So, it would be advisable for Tanglewood to hire nationally instead of globally.
