The Devil Wears Prada (2006) plot summary
As given away by the title the film focuses on the world of high fashion, and what an exciting insight it provides! Based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel, "The Devil Wears Prada" is centered on a naïve young girl Andy (Anne Hathaway) who moves to New York with her boyfriend in order to make her break in the world of journalism. However it isn't quite as easy as she originally thought to secure her dream job and so ends up working as an assistant to the ultra-demanding editor-in-chief (Meryl Streep) of Runway, the ultimate fashion magazine in the world. Having no interest in fashion or office politics, Andy soon discovers that the job is far more than a simple 9-5 office job. Miranda's first assistant, Emily (Blunt), doesn't think much of Andy either. Miranda, however, thinks Andy is smart (and "fat") and different. and quickly looses her faith in the somewhat false world that is fashion. The plot continues. Andrea is sorely tested each and every day--and often late into the night with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. Andy changes with the help of Nigel, the magazine's art director, due to the demands of the job and the subsequent pressure this puts on her own life. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to question whether or not the job that a million girls would die for is worth the price of her soul.
