Technology Budget
Our first task is to buy hardware and software for new six employees. $250,000 is a budget for buying all needed components. We have three brands: Dell, Hewlett Packard, and Apple. Let us examine analyzing costs and comparing prices.
For analyzing we have chosen such components as:
1) Laptop (1GB memory, 120 GB hard drive, wireless card)
2) 17" flat panel monitor
3) Color printer
4) Scanner
5) Windows Vista or Leopard
6) 3 year support plan
First, we need to find a small business laptop with simple characteristics. Therefore, our prices are
Dell: $1010*6=$6,060
Hewlett Packard: $450*6=$2,700
Apple: $990*6=$5,940
As you see, Dell has the maximum price of laptop. However, the best choice is Apple because such laptops are more suitable for our website development company.
Second, buying monitors is my next goal.
Dell: $160*6=$960
Hewlett Packard: $185*6=$1,110
Apple: $90*6=$540
Monitors Dell are the best variant of 17" flat panel monitors for my employees.
Third, color printer is one of the most important components for my company.
Dell: $250*3=750
Hewlett Packard: $290*3=870
Apple: $299*3=897
In this case, our choice is printer of HP because HP is number one in the market of printers. Moreover, Apple creates special drivers for HP, which allow HP printers to work with MacBooks. These drivers can be downloaded for free.
Next, analyzing the cost of scanners:
Dell: $420
Hewlett Packard: $350
Apple: $700
Of course, we can find scanners, which are more expensive than this one. However, I believe that these costs are fit for the company with 13(7 current + 6 new) employees. If we choose laptops Apple we will buy scanner Apple or HP.
Fifth, buying OS for MacBooks and Notebooks:
Dell: $239*6=$1,434
Hewlett Packard: $239*6=$1,434
Apple: $190*6=$1,140
Mac OS X Snow leopard is the best OS in the world. However, leopards are suitable only with Macs.
