Write a paper that answers the following questions:
- How has technology and innovation impacted your organization? Consider both the change in types of jobs and the cost of living in your response. Provide a detailed explanation for your evaluation that demonstrates clear, insightful critical thinking.
- How can managers use the principles of change management to assist in cultural and organization change? Provide a detailed explanation for your evaluation that demonstrates clear, insightful critical thinking.
Technology and innovation has impacted my organization in a big way. One of my company’s cultural beliefs is innovation. The company culture is to continue to innovate now and recently the company was challenged to invest in innovation. The company I work for has invested a lot of money in an open concept alternative workspace. They not ony invested in the workspace they invested in renovating existing bidings and building new buildings.
One change in technology in the workplace has been the use of the internet. Today, many companies rely heavily on the internet for systems or job functions. For example, the call center I work in went from using a basic office phone to an upgraded phone system that operates through the computer, which relies on internet. Since it is a call center our job relies heavily on the phones and in the event where internet connection is lost our phone system is down. This is a major weakness with depending on the internet for a system. Technology is not dependable, but it is impactful.
Technology and innovation has effected the environment in the workplace. has been for…years has been traditional. Traditional workplace environments have consisted in cubicles that had high walls. The cubicles were personalized and a way to keep others at a distance. Upper management did not have to face their employees nor did they have a hands-on approach in real time. Upper management traditional had an office with a door away from the entry level employees and the problems of the business. In the new alternative work space this goes against tradition. There are no cubicle walls or personal space. Everything is open and there are no offices, just conference rooms. One benefit is the effectiveness and productivity. Employees can get answers faster by simply walking to another area. By employees having communication ties to everyone including top management this makes for an efficient and effective way to communicate. Top managers are thrown into everyday duties of employees. For example, the director of my department is now able to sit next to his employees and see and hear the work they are doing first hand. A weakness to this new environment is it can be like high school. People are encouraged to sit wherever they like since there are no assigned seats which includes people from all over the organization and this becomes a distraction. People are constantly socializing.
