Depression what are the signs? Do we know how to stop teens and young adults from ending the life that they where given. What makes a teen or young adult feel that there is now other way out?.
My chosen analyze was on depression and suicide. The reason for this chosen topic was because it hit close to home. Not only at 13 years old did I try to commit suicide myself but I have had family members try and my own brother almost accomplish the act. My sisters friend hung himself just months before he was to graduate high school. I can tell you now from reading the websites and from personal expertise in this that not all wish to do the deed but it's a cry for help. Would you know the signs and the cry for help if it was staring you in the face.
All three sites tell you not to ignore the cries for help do not take it lightly. In teens you see and hear about the teens that just snap. What has pushed them to this point of wanting to end the pain that they are going though. Are they being picked on at school, pressured to get good grades or be the best in sports? or have they gone though sexual and or physical abuse. Most times we will look at someone and say no they are not capable of ending their lives by suicide but more than likely they are the ones you hear about.
So how do we as a community answer the cries? What are the key signs to look for to get someone the help they need without them coming right out and saying I want to kill myself. I know after reading the websites and seeing what the young man my sister was friends with that some of the cries are talking about death, saying I just want to end it all. Maybe a teen has always had great grades and has done well in school, but out of the blue there grades just go downhill but not for a lack of the child not knowing the information.
Maybe the teen or young adult had withdrawn from their friends and family. They just might change how they do things. I know for me it was I had low to no self-esteem, my brother I believe had to do with not feeling like he was good enough for are dad. Another big thing could just very well be there is something chemically wrong is side their brains to make them turn down this long dark path to destruction.
While analyzing the school shooting at columbine and I can see that depression and the other on medication. Medical professionals believe that is what pushed both boys over the edge. Both had given cries for help but they had been ignored. That pushing both boys to kill 12 students and one teacher and hurting 21 others as well as 2 got hurt while trying to get to safety. Now
