Test anxiety
It's pretty normal to feel a little nervous and stressed before a test. A little bit nervous anticipation can actually help a person get better and keep him or her at peak performance while taking the test. But for some people, this normal anxiety is more intense. The nervousness they feel before a test can be so strong that it interferes with their concentration or performance. In this case, they may get test anxiety, which is a nervous feeling that people sometimes get when they are about to take a test.
Test anxiety is really a problem for many students. All anxiety is a reaction to anticipating something stressful. Like other anxiety reactions, test anxiety affects the body and the mind that can cause the physical symptoms, such as sweating, a pounding heart, and rapid breathing. Therefore, test anxiety interferes with students'concentration and prevents them from doing their best on a test, which affect the learning effectiveness and lower the test score. Some recommended solutions can help to deal with test anxiety and keep it at a manageable level.
Firstly, people should use a little stress to their advantage. Instead of reacting to the stress by dreading, complaining about the test with friends, the better way is to take an active approach. Students should let stress remind them to study well prior to a test. Nobody ever feels stressed out by thoughts that they might do well on a test.
Secondly, test anxiety is easy to happen without preparation for the test. In fact, studying the night before a test cannot take the place of the deeper level of learning that happens over time with regular study. Many students find that their test anxiety is reduced when they start to study better or more regularly. The more they know the material, the more confident they will feel.
Thirdly, everyone should take care of themselves to overcome test anxiety. For some people, this might mean learning a simple breathing exercise. Practicing breathing exercises regularly helps their body see these exercises as a signal to relax. Also, taking care of health, such as getting enough sleep, exercise, and healthy eats before a test, can help keep brain working at its best.
In conclusion, everything takes time and practice, and learning to beat test anxiety is no different. It might not get a bad grade raised after the fact, but with help, the student can learn to manage test anxiety so that they can do better in the future. In addition, facing and dealing with test anxiety will help form stress management, which can prove to be a valuable skill in many situations.
