1) The Agents of socialization
2) Norms/Mcdonaldization
In this discussion, I will apply the agents of socialization and norms to the public transit system (bus).
Firstly, I’ll be talking about the agents of socialization. Socialization is a lifelong process that during which we learn about social expectations and how to interact with other people. There are 4 major agents: family, school, peers and media that help us in doing such as they teach/provide us with different ways we could interact with the society. One of the many things the agents of socialization provide is education i.e. what is wrong and what is right. Take for instance the public transit system (bus). Since a tender age, a child learns things from his/her family, peers, and school like for example, the child learns in school that you should stay in line and not cut in between the lines when you want to get onto the bus.
Another thing provided by the agents of socialization is morals and values. For instance, the family teaches you to respect your elders. This can be applied to the public transit system because for instance all the seats are occupied and an old man gets on the bus, the child would offer his/her seat to the old man because that’s the values he/she has learnt from his/her family.
Secondly, another concept that can be applied to the public transit system is norms. Norms is basically the rules and expectations that the society has of the people. They’re basically behaviors that are accepted by the society. One of the norms of the public transit system is the basic rules of using public transportation. For example, one knows not to bring drinks/food to the bus and also that smoking is not allowed in public transit systems. Another example of this is that the passenger should take all his belongings with him when he leaves the bus, or that he/she has to pay a certain amount of money to use the public transit system.
Another norm of using the public transit system is basic expectations. Like for example, if someone is using the transportation system, he/she must understand that there are other people using the same transportation. Hence, he/she should not dirty the bus, and also try not to bring too much luggage with him/her. Another examples of this is that
