The biggest ethical issue facing me today is....
There are a number of ethical issues facing me today. I am an agnostic, who believes that organized religion has done more harm than good. I am a convicted felon who has a number of issues with the legal and justice system. I am a white male who thinks that affirmative action is wrong. I believe that abortion is a woman's choice. I think that political parties should be made unconstitutional. However two of the biggest ethical issues facing me, as a homosexual, are the issues of gay marriage and gay rights.
When I first heard the arguments for and against gay marriage I immediately felt animosity toward the issue. In my opinion marriage is a religious ceremony performed in a church to promote Christian theology. This is the same Christian theology that considers homosexuality to be a sin. It baffles me that there are homosexuals in this country that support marriage, and feel that having that option is in some way a notion of equality. These laws if they are ever passed do nothing but promote the Christian agenda. If anything, marriage of any sorts should be banned in every state, and replaced with legislation that uses the words civil union. It is plain ignorant of the LGBT organizations who support gay marriage to assume that every homosexual wants the right to marry. In fact the more research I've done on this issue has led to me to numerous different websites full of homosexuals like myself who do not support the issue of gay marriage.
This brings me to the other ethical issue facing gays in this country, the idea that we are so different from everyone else that we need separate rights. This is one of the most dangerous ideas I think any LGBT organization or community could promote. These groups spend a lot of time and energy making sure everyone knows that gays are different. Things like gay pride, gay parades, gay bars, gay magazines, and gay television programs are an embarrassment to me and others. If these organizations are going to try so hard to be different, then they shouldn't be surprised when people treat them different. A lot of energy has been wasted by these people to promote division, and to distance gays from other people. We need to be focusing on what brings us together, not what keeps us apart.
The separation that has been created by LGBT organizations and communities has made life as a homosexual more challenging. The idea of gay marriage and gay rights are just another way that people within these communities have found to further divide us as a species. If their goal is to make "gay" more acceptable then
