Mr. Keating from the Dead Poet Society taught his students about seeing the world through different eyes or a different viewpoint. He had them walk around the courtyard in synchronization which taught them a lesson on conformities, and how to stand out from the norm. Mr. Keating also said the phrase "Carpe Diem" and stressed it's importance. His final teaching is to find your own rhythm.
This is different/similar from what Holden was told in the Catcher in the Rye because Holden was told to grow up and find a happy thing in his life. That he needs to be more mature with his decisions and find his way through. Whereas in the Dead Poets Society Mr. Keating is teaching his students to stand out and not conform to society and to follow your own paths.
