Running head: COMMUNICATION AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY 2

Business communication refers to the relaying of information related to services, products or companies within the business (Clutterbuck , Hirst & Cage, 2003). Communication is an important part in the daily operation of a business. Clear communication channels within a business helps the organization carry out its activities effectively. All businesses require effective communication channels and skills. There are various communication channels which include face-face communication, internet communication, print, presentations, reports, telephone conversations and forums. Technology plays a vital role in business as well. Without modern technology, communicating through most of those channels would not be possible. Businesses have come to depend on technology for their success.

Modern technology has changed our personal life as well as revolutionized the world of business. Many years ago, communication was limited to sending letters and communicating through radio waves resulting in poor and delayed communication. Now however, with the invention of phones, cellphones, computers and more, businesses can communicate globally in less time and effort.

With the invention of computers and internet the speed of which we can communicate has increased dramatically. Now businesses can communicate in numerous ways like email, texting, instant messaging and video conferencing to name a few. An email can be composed, sent and received in a matter of minutes. Text messaging allows for short messages to be sent from phone to phone in seconds. An individual can be reached by telephone almost anywhere as network coverage continues to grow and develop. Instant messaging and video conferencing allow groups of people to speak in real time from all over the country and world.

Modern technology is increasing the accessibility factor for communication as well. The ever expanding development of telephone and internet coverage can allow businesses to communicate with other business from the most rural and far-off places of the world. Accessibility allows for files for file sharing and for collaboration on projects and group work. This also allows people to work from virtually anywhere, whether it is from home, the beach, or a ship in the middle of the sea.
