The major factors that contributed to the easing of federal housing restrictions came from many different areas. The main reason why the federal housing restrictions in the U.S began to weaken was because of the Supreme Court rulings. Many of these Supreme Court rulings said that racial covenants were unenforceable. Along with these court rulings, policy shifts in and between the 1940's and 1960's attempted to outlaw discriminatory practices that had been established for a while. Another main reason for the easing of federal housing restrictions as well was blacks taking initiative. Afro Americans took the initiative to get military training for wartime job opportunities. This made it easier for the government not to have a reason to discriminate in housing. Their efforts would be to deliberately and obviously discriminatory.
