2.0 Problem Statement

In the case of FIJIAN, their local custom Tau relationship has prevented Moala from taking action against Salome because of Salome's generation of Fijian sponsoring Moala to study in Switzerland for 3 years and holding the most important executive positions in the international hotel group. However, if this continues, it will affect FIJIAN's credibility and professionalism in managing the management, production and performance of the hotel itself and the conduct of employees on their work. The main problem of this case study is the cross-cultural management conflict that has taken place as a result of fraudulent crimes committed by trainee staff.

2.1 List of Problems:

  1. Moala Tukana only silent even though he already knew that Salome had stolen the customer's money. He also pretends that he does not know anything. After he was suspended by Mr. Brett Taylor, he pleaded guilty for not taking any action against Salome because he was bound by their own belief in 'Tau Relationship'.
  2. Salome Suacake had been deceived three months after he worked. Rumors about it have spread but nobody wants to take action because there is no evidence that she did that until she was arrested by Mr Brett Taylor himself.
  3. The unobtrusive action of Salome Suacake accidentally stole customers' money by stating that she did not steal for herself but for church finance. However, she has used 'Tau Relationship' as a excuse by taking advantage of Moala's position.
  4. Brett Taylor's dilemma in making his decision especially on his senior manager, Moala Tukana. His decision now involves the professionalism of his staff in the field of work and local custom issues. He needs to make the right decisions that will not hurt Fijian as this is a very sensitive issue but at the same time the decision must be strict and fair to FIJIAN's credibility and justice so that staff cannot repeat the same crime or mistake.

3.0 Alternative Strategy

  1. Brett Taylor needs to make discussions of the three involved in the problem to explain their actions.

This method is called a model of concern. It means taking action on those who are involved in silent Maolo only on Salome theft and on Tau's instructions. Brett Taylor call them three to make some discussion or meeting to solve this problem. Brett Taylor can call them three by either sending a letter or Brett Taylor himself to go home and tell them to come to his office to talk. Brett Taylor needs to question why they did the act and all three need to explain it honestly. This method where Brett Taylor did not have to remove or arrest the guilty but he just warned. This action was taken not to disrupt the cultural and customary issues of fijian. Besides that, Brett Taylor also tell to Tau if their church need some donation can bring the proposal letter to their company to give donation.

  1. Brett Taylor explain to the Maola that his actions were incorrect on the law and organizational rules as well as inform his pontensi.

Brett Taylor will send a letter or go to Maola's house to meet him to explain his actions wrongfully on the law and the rules of the organization. In addition, Brett Taylor also advise Maola to didnot make the mistake again. In addition, Brett Taylor also told Maolo of his potential in the company so that he felt motivated and affectionate to his career and feared being dismissed or fired.

  1. Aggressive action no bias.

This action where Brett Taylor will throw Salome away for the mistakes or actions she does. While Maola will be suspended for 2 or 3 weeks in order to feel sorry for her unethical actions in the organization.

4.0 Evaluation of Alternative Strategy

According to the Fijian’s case, there are several issues have been arising and these issues are required to be solve immediately. There are three strategies that have been discussed and appropriate to resolve the issues between Mr. Brett Taylor and his employees. Each strategy that has been taken is having the positive outcomes and also has negative outcomes if the strategy is implements.

  1. Brett Taylor needs to make discussions of the three involved in the problem to explain their actions.

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

By calling both Moala and Salome, their problems can be resolved immediately. This is because as long as their problems are not resolved, people’s even more the other’s employee ill make the rumors more crowded. With this gathering as well, Brett Taylor will know what is the real problem and the things that are going through to Salome that she is willing to do so.
