* There is something about Nathanial's past that is not right, and always seems to be haunting him. He has to face the truth about his past before he can overcome the darkness. Nathaniel is one character this book cannot do without. heis the main character in the book The Gathering. He is a troubled child not having a great relationship with his mother, not having any friend and having nothing he can relate to. His mother and him don't seem to talk much and share their ideas, meaning that Nathaniel is living in a hole the only thing he can talk to is his dog. This is until the circle is formed. * Good vs. evil is a widely explored theme in Isobelle Carmody's novel 'The Gathering'. It is most evident in the battle between the Chain and the Kraken, however the more sinister, subtler acts of evil occur when he attempts to make each member vulnerable by breaching their weaknesses. While the physical examples such as the final battle, the murder of The Tod and the violent acts by Buddha and his gang could certainly be classified as evil, it is my belief that the brainwashing of the students and the fanatical powers of illusion Mr. Karle wields are more insidious, swiftly inhabiting and manifesting in the minds of people in a way that is more powerful than any outright acts of violence.
* Lallie is a strange quiet girl which we may ask many questions about. She is the person behind the circle and the healing and is what strives to make the others complete the healing. She lives in the attic at the school's library concealed behind a trap door which no one noes about.
* Mr Karle is a dreadful man that helps evil too spread. Mr Karle is the principal at Three Norths and he is a wicked man. He is trying to find out who the people are in the circle and make them join the gathering. Trying to destroy the circle so that evil can take over
